Before you start reading this passage, I want you to know that this isn’t an in-depth biography about myself. This passage is more so a brief look into how went from making beats on a burned out computer to showcasing my music for esteemed musicians in the music business.

WHO IS SIDEFX?

What started as a simple hobby for Xavier in 2002, would later become much more.  I started out making beats on an old Windows Xp computer without any experience in musical compositions. Well to be fair, I can’t really call them beats since I was just starting off and they sucked. (Seriously, my beats SUCKED back then) You couldn’t tell me that my beats was horrible back then though. That’s just how enthusiastic I was about my production. I remember people would constantly tell me to stop, but music was my passion so I kept at it.

Fast forward a few years later, I linked up with a few local artists and began producing for them under the alias X. Little by little my production began to improve and become more organized. It wasn’t until 2006 that I began to really want to elevate my sound and myself as a music producer. That year I changed my production name to The Sidefx Beatz, started focusing more on the business aspect of music, and I took a short break from “beat making”.

In 2007, I graduated high school and started to attend the Art Institute of Atlanta majoring in audio engineering. Not too long into the course, I realized that college wasn’t for me so I dropped out and focused on my music full-time.  From 2008-2011, I would go on to work with numerous unsigned talent and gain great experience with mixing and recording.

From 2007-2011, nothing major seemed to change until I was contacted in 2012 about showcasing my production by iStandard Producers. This was my first time displaying my beats in a live setting (in a club, not a studio). Despite me being nervous, the crowd responded better than I thought they would to my beats. The judges loved my production and I tied for 2nd place (April ATL Showcase). A few months later I participated again at a different location with iStandard producers. Again I won 2nd place and was invited to New York to participate against producers from all-around the world in November. In December, I was once again invited to showcase with iStandard only this time I did not participate in the show itself instead I headlined as a featured producer. In other words, I set the tone for the night by playing my beats ahead of the competitors in front of an esteemed panel of celebrity A&Rs and producers.

Last year in 2013, I had opportunity to get one of my beats critiqued by Illmind (producer for Kanye West, 50 Cent, and more). I received a positive review from him (you can see the video under the videos link in the navigation menu at the top of the screen).  At my current skill set and knowledge, I am capable of producing just about any type of music that you need for your project (rather you need R&B, Hip-Hop, or even some Dubstep).

The whole purpose of this biography is to not only give you a brief idea about who I am, but to really build you up. I could have given up when my peers told me to stop, I could have quit all together when I dropped out of school, I could have even quit when I had no idea what to do with my music from 2007-2011. I didn’t quit and I’ve met so many amazing people, been given amazing opportunities, and I’m still working on bettering myself. My advise to you is to find something that you love, dedicate yourself to it, and Never Give Up.
